Good evening, hope you had a lovely Sabbath. I had a powerful Sabbath. The message was what I needed to hear. And I hope the Lord as we requested yesterday, did speak to you too today.
You know with the struggles we face today. It's really hard at times to trust what God's word. If you have once not known where you going to lay your head for the night or where you next meal will come from. You probably understand what I mean. Your faith in God to provide for those needs at that particular time undoubtedly reduces.
And you know it doesn't even need to be that exteme. You might me be like me who has been facing great financial challenges. And you find yourself even out of sleep wondering where you are going to get the required funds/employment/help.
Well today's message revived my trust in God. That he is ever there just at the verge of loosing it all, does he give you all. He is not ignorant of out basic needs.
So below are findings from today's message
1 Kings 17: 1-16
When Elijah had told Ahab that there will no rain for the coming years. His life was now endangered when indeed his words came to pass. He was taken at being the cause of this and therefore was sought for with great urgency.
For this reason God tells Elijah to go to the Brook named Cherith. He went and did according to the word of the Lord.
- When you are tried or tempted God always provides a brook for escape. You just need to trust him enough to actually find it.
Now here begins the interesting part. God says to Elijah. It shall be in this brook that you will find water for drink and for food I have commanded the Ravens to feed you.
2. Wherever God takes you, he has already made provision for your needs.
3. For the love of you, God does even the unusual to ensure you are taken care of (in this case Ravens feeding Elijah)
After a while the Brook got dry. And again God says to Elijah go to Zeraphath, dwell there. I have commanded a widow to sustain you.
Bare in mind the widow part ( we know in the ancient days even now how hard it is for a widow to sustain their own family)
As God said, Elijah does. He finds the widow gathering sticks for firewood, and he asks for water. As the widow was fetching the water Elijah says " Bring me, I pray thee a morsel of bread in thine head"
Well that shouldn't be much of a problem right, it's just a piece of 🍞 he is asking for.
Well for this widow it was, this is all I have she says " a handful of flour and a little oil and I am gathering these sticks that I may go and prepare it for me and my son, that we may eat it ,and die.
Wait a minute, didn't God say this is the woman that will sustain Elijah? Yes he did, and yes she will.
Elijah then says it's okay. I hear you. Go prepare what you have but first give to me and then make you and your child.
4. In your nothingness, God still regards as to be having something.
Heeee Elijah, not only does he require of the little food that the woman has but even says he should be given first.
But he doesn't end with just the request, he assures the lady of God's word "your flour and oil shall run out no more. And the woman did according to Elijah's instructions and it was so. She and he and her house, did eat many days.
5. The brook for Elijah had to run dry for this woman's food to be multiplied. Sometimes you may lack things, not for you but that someone through you may receive the blessing of what they too don't have. Sometimes you will to thirsty (Elijah) that someone may be fed (widow).
6. God will never require you to give what he knows you can't.
7. She said"that we may eat it ,and die." but "She and he and her house, did eat many days". God grants you exactly what you need when you need it the most. You just need to trust him enough to do so.
And above all Look at the birds of the air: They do not sow or reap or gather into barns--and yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Mat 6:26
